Lindsay
Lindsay hails from the town of Kinross where she lives in her own cosy home just outside the centre. If you were to compare Lindsay’s life today to her life only six years ago you would be hard pressed to believe you were looking at the same person.
Lindsay is part of a very close very loving family. Her parents have made a determined effort throughout her life to ensure she has as much independence as possible, has the same opportunities as her older brother ultimately to have control over her life.
When Lindsay first built her circle of support through Equal Futures it was easy to see immediately what one of Lindsay’s gifts were – how she connects with people within the community and how naturally forming friendships comes to her. She invited a group of people that she already has strong bonds with to become the core of her circle. Though most of those original members are still active, Lindsay has also made a special effort to bring in new people and build new friendships. Six years ago Lindsay was living at home with her parents and attending a day centre in Perth. Amongst many other hopes and dreams Lindsay wanted to have a home of her own and for that home to be in Perth. Through the support of her circle however she soon realised that just because she went to the centre in Perth, Kinross was where all her friends were and she’d actually be far happier living close by to them. She now has her own home which she’s decorated in her own tastes and filled with her own character… not forgetting her pet fish. She receives support daily to live independently in her home. The next challenge for Lindsay and her circle was that Lindsay wasn’t really being part of the community by attending a day centre in Perth so what would be a more productive way to spend her days? Well this story could go on forever if I was to list all the different activities that Lindsay’s involved in now so I’ll give you just a quick flavour... College, part time work, Faith and Light group, Pottery, Curling club and competitions, church groups, visiting friends and did I mention the gliding? No… well Lindsay is a member of the local gliding club and has just done her 138th flight! What can I say... Lindsay didn’t have independence or the chance of a good life offered to her on a plate but through the support of her family and circle, who knows what the future holds?!
